Girija Prasad Koirala, Samuel Tamrat hold discussions

Kathmandu, 14 June: Nepali Congress President Girija Prasad Koirala and senior UN official Samuel Tamrat held hour-long discussions on the future of UNMIN mandate and other issues.
The UNMIN mandate ends 23 July.
Tamrat, who arrived in Nepal last week, after consultations in New Delhi, was assisted by UNMIN Chief Karen Landgren.
Nepali Congress has been critical of UNMIN role in Nepal demanding re-verification of Maoist combatants after Prachanda boasted he fooled UNMIN into accepting 19,000 combatants when the actual strength of PLA commandants was only between 7,000 to 8,000.
Prachanda revealed Maoists are making money out of stipends for Maoists to finance weapons purchase or a people’s war.
UNMIN said re-verification wasn’t practical and would create additional problems without addressing the serious issues raised in the Prachanda tape.
