Army Chief to be sacked if Maoists not satisfied with explanation, Nepali Congress backs army (BREAKING NEWS)

Kathmandu, 20 April: Army Chief Gen.Rukmangud Katawal will be sacked in the next 24 hours if the Maoist-led government isn’t satisfied with an explanation for defiance of government orders, Finance Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai and Communication Minister Krishna Bahadur Mahara said and suggested.
Dr Bhattarai said in Nepalgunj Monday Katawal will be sacked if a reply isn’t satisfactory.
Main opposition Nepali Congress backed the state army by announcing an indefinite boycott of parliament.
A grave political crisis has surfaced
Defence ministry asked the top army chief to furnish a reply Monday.
Mahara charged Nepal Army had defied government by challenging in the supreme court a government order to terminate services of eight brigadier generals and also by boycotting the 8th national games after PLA participated in the last moment.
Prime Minister Prachanda raised the issued with President Dr Ram Baran Yadav at a hasty meeting.
Nepali Congress Vice-President Ram Chandra Paudel told parliament Maoists were attempting to ‘smash and weaken’ state institutions, including the army.
The latest clash with the army surfaced after the defence ministry
was working to an amend an army act to retire officers after 30 years of service.
This means an officer would be retired at 48 years of age.
The army protested the move.
It takes an officer 35 years to reach the top army job.

Krishna Prasad Bhattarai admitted to hospital

Kathmandu, 20 April: Former Prime Minister Krishna Prasad Bhattarai was admitted to a hospital Monday after complaining of chest pains.
Maoist leader Mohan Krishna Baidya Kiran was admitted to the same hospital specializing in treatment of heart disease.
